
Pack Adds Safety Transfer

NC State head football coach Dave Doeren has announced that Stephen Griffin, a safety from Charlotte, is joining the Wolfpack football program. The junior transfer from Tennessee will sit out the 2017 season, then will have two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6'2, 205 South Mecklenburg High School product played in 11 games for the Vols last season, starting the regular season finale at Vanderbilt. He played in eight games as a true freshman in 2015.

"We're very excited to welcome Stephen to the Wolfpack family," said Doeren. "We recruited him in high school at South Meck and wanted him here then. He comes from a great family and adds another top in-state player from the Charlotte area to our roster."

Griffin was named the 2014 Defensive Player of the Year for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, as well as the Charlotte Touchdown Club. He tallied over 150 tackles for his junior and season seasons combined, along with six interceptions.. He was rated the No. 2 safety in North Carolina by scout.com and the No. 23 safety nationally by rivals.com following his high school career.

Griffin's father, Steve, was a running back at Clemson from 1982-86 and played one season in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons.
