Recently, GoPack.com had the opportunity to catch up with former women's golf member Ana Menendez about what she has been up to since she graduated from NC State.
A Mexico City, Mexico, native, Menendez wrapped up her collegiate career in 2014 with a 75.9 stroke average in 119 rounds – which ties for the most recorded in program history. She graduated in December 2015 with a business administration degree with a finance concentration and a marketing minor.
She turned pro in 2016 and is currently playing on the Ladies European Tour.
Where she's living now:
"I never thought this could be a trick question but it is! I'm kind of all over the place. My home is Mexico City, but since I'm traveling all over the place I sometimes spend time in Italy or in Switzerland with a friend, depending on my tournament schedule. I guess I'm a little bit of a nomad right now."
What her experience has been like playing professional golf:
"It's been great! I've been able to travel all over the world and have made a lot of friends. In fact, last year I played in five continents. It's also been challenging - it's much harder than I thought. You have to be very disciplined and very tough through the up and downs. I've definitely learned a lot about myself and have become much more independent."
What her plans are with her career in golf:
"I definitely plan to continue playing in the upcoming years. I have a lot of goals to accomplish and I'm very determined in accomplishing them. I want to win an LET event and get my LPGA card and win out there."
What she does when she's not practicing or playing:
"I love to travel and to do sightseeing in different places. I'm very into history and art, so I've really enjoyed my time in Europe. I also love to read and workout. I don't have a lot of off time but when I do I keep myself busy!"
What she misses about collegiate golf and NC State:
"I miss the team atmosphere a lot. It was so awesome to play golf in a team format, and to practice and workout that way also. I don't think you ever get to do that again. Professional golf is a lot more selfish and you have to figure everything out yourself. It was so nice to have that structure and guidance, and I think it has helped me make the transition to the tour."
Her favorite memory from her time at NC State:
"It's so hard to pick one because there are so many! I would say advancing as a team to nationals for the first time in program history during my sophomore year was very special. Also, our trip to Hawaii my senior year was just amazing."
When she started playing golf and how she got introduced to it:
"I started when I was 11. We live at a country club in Mexico and both of my grandparents played. When my parents started playing, I just had to be a part of it too."
