RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's tennis has signed Lavinia Tanasie of Romania, as announced by head coach Simon Earnshaw on Friday. Tanasie will join the program ahead of the upcoming fall campaign.
Â
"I speak for everyone involved with Pack Women's Tennis that we are extremely excited to welcome Lavinia to Raleigh," said Earnshaw. "The recruiting process was short, but I've quickly been impressed by Lavinia's work ethic and commitment to everything that she does and maturity. I expect her to be an impact player immediately and a key piece in our build towards challenging again for an ACC title and ultimately an NCAA Championship!"
Tanasie has achieved a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 506, while also reaching No. 846 in the doubles rankings. The 21-year-old holds five ITF W15 titles, three in singles and two in doubles. Most recently, she captured a pair of W15 championships in 2025, winning the singles title at W15 Kursumlijska Banja and the doubles crown at W15 Bucharest.
Lavinia's other tournament victories occurred in 2024, including a pair of singles titles at W15 events in Bucharest, Romania and Nules, Spain. She also claimed the doubles title at W15 Galati, Romania.
Tanasie comes to NC State with a deep-rooted passion for tennis and believes joining the Wolfpack will set her up for success both in college and beyond.
"I chose NC State because it has everything I was looking for," Tanasie said. "Great coaches, an amazing tennis program and a well-structured schedule. I believe that NC State can help me grow as a person and athlete and improve my tennis career."
Coming from Romania, Tanasie joins a Wolfpack squad made up primarily of international players. Though the journey from home is a long one, she knows her family's support will lift her as she begins her college career.
"Coming from far away, I know it's going to be difficult being away from my family," Tanasie added. "Their support and trust in me give me the courage to begin a new chapter in my life."
The Wolfpack will begin the 2025-26 campaign this fall after making a sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Sweet Sixteen last season.
