CHARLOTTE, N.C. - NC State distance runner Grace Hartman and gymnast Chloe Negrete have been selected to represent the Atlantic Coast Conference as nominees for the 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, as announced by the conference on Thursday.
The prestigious award was established in 1991 to honor graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service, and leadership.
"All of us in the Wolfpack family have known for a long time just how special Grace and Chloe are," said McMurray Family Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. "We are so proud of them and their accomplishments, competitively and academically, and congratulate them for being the ACC's nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year. It makes a strong statement about the success of our athletics program that both of the league's nominees represent NC State."
It marks only the second time since 2012 that both of the ACC's nominees for the honor have come from the same school. The other instance was in 2018, when the Wolfpack's Erika Kemp and Alexia Zevnik were honored.Â
"Each year, I am amazed and inspired by the incredible accomplishments of our student-athletes who are nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year, and this year is no exception," said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. "Grace and Chloe stood out among a remarkable group of candidates, and their selection speaks volumes about the strength of character, leadership and excellence they each possess. Our conference has a proud history of outstanding nominees, and Grace and Chloe continue that legacy."
Hartman enters her senior year with a long list of athletic achievements, including being an eight-time All-American and nine-time All-ACC performer. During the 2024-25 season, Hartman dominated the distance scene. She set the program, facility and meet record in the 10,000m at Raleigh Relays with a time of 31:20.60, becoming the third-fastest performer in NCAA History. She followed that performance by breaking both the NC State and ACC records in the 5000m, at Duke Twilight running the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history, with a time of 14:58.11.Â
Hartman capped off the season winning the ACC Outdoor Track & Field 5000m individual title and being named the ACC Women's Outdoor Track Performer of the Year. She also earned First-Team All-America honors in both the 5000m and 10,000m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. In cross country, she led the Wolfpack in every meet of the 2024 season, winning the ACC individual title and the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship title. She went on to finish fifth at the NCAA Championships.
Hartman's academic achievements are equally exceptional. She has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team seven times and the USTFCCA All-Academic Team five times. Hartman was also named the 2024 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for both outdoor track and cross country.Â
Negrete enjoyed a decorated five-year career with the Pack both in the gym and the classroom, capping her time at NC State with a strong 2025 season that earned her Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association Southeast Gymnast of the Year honors.Â
In her final season, Negrete tallied 24 podium finishes, including 13 individual titles, and recorded 13 scores of 9.900 or higher. Over the course of her career, she accumulated 14 total all-conference honors - nine from EAGL and five from the ACC. She was also named to six EAGL all-tournament squads during the 2021 and 2023 campaigns. In 2024, she led NC State to ACC regular season and championship titles, earning ACC Specialist of the Year and winning the individual league titles on both beam and floor. She was also named a finalist for the AAI Award, given annually to the nation's top senior.
Negrete's impressive academic efforts helped her to back-to-back ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards in 2024 and 2025. She was also named to the ACC All-Academic team in both of those campaigns. Before the program's move to the ACC, the Frisco, Texas, native was a four-time member of the All-EAGL Scholastic team. She is also a five-time WCGA Academic All-American (2020-24).
