NEW ORLEANS - NC State track & field freshman, Sadie Engelhardt, was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I National Athlete of the Week, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
Engelhardt earned the national honor following a dramatic come-from-behind anchor leg in the last lap of the distance medley relay at the ASICS Last Chance Invite on Feb. 21. When she received the baton, NC State sat in fourth-place, nearly 10 second behind the leader, UNC. Engelhardt ran a 4:23.55 1600m split, which allowed for the Wolfpack to overtake the Tar Heels for a first-place finish.
Teaming up with Bethany Michalak, Brooke Rauber and Angelina Napoleon, the quartet clocked a program-record 10:46.00 to win the event and etch their names into the NC State record book. Their time currently ranks No. 7 for the 2025-26 NCAA Indoor season.
The accolade marks Engelhardt's first career USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honor and her second weekly award this season after being named the ACC Track Athlete and Freshman of the Week on Feb. 17.
Engelhardt is the second female athlete from NC State to be named a USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season, joining two-time 2023 honoree Katelyn Tuohy.
