Hoops 4 Hope 10th Anniversary
A Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Event at NC State
On Feb. 22, N.C. State will take on Duke at the 10th annual Hoops 4 Hope women's basketball game to raise awareness and funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Hoops 4 Hope at NC State
Kay Yow, former NC State head women's basketball coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 before passing away on January 24, 2009. Coach Yow did not lose her battle with breast cancer; she simply turned the battle over to each of us.
Hoops 4 Hope was Coach Yow's way of sharing her strength and joy in celebration with fellow cancer survivors. Today, 10 years after the first event at NC State, Hoops 4 Hope is recreated hundreds of times, across the country and is called Play 4 Kay - and it is so much more than a basketball game.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a charitable organization committed finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause. Since its inception, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has contributed more than $3.9 million in grants to fund scientific research for all women's cancers. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund has also worked closely with Rex Healthcare to fund The Coach, the only mobile digital mammography unit in Wake County.
There are several ways you can participate:
1. Purchase tickets: $5 from each ticket goes directly to the Fund.
2. Invite a breast cancer survivor to attend the game with you and be a part of the halftime recognition ceremony - the halftime recognition was very important to Coach Yow, celebrate the victory!
3. Check out the silent auction prior to the game - 100% of proceeds from the silent auction are donated to the Fund.
4. Visit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund at their information table on game day. Visit them online at www.kayyow.com or donate online at the Hoops 4 Hope Fundraising Website
