Pack Points of Pride
Among the Elite: NC State was one of only three institutions in the nation to have its football team play in a bowl game, its men's basketball team reach the NCAA Tournament, and its baseball team advance to the College World Series in 2012-13 (Louisville and UCLA).
Over the last two years, NC State has seen rapid improvement in the performance of its 23 varsity teams. During the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years, a total of 30 teams have scored points in the Director's Cup standings, the most ever in back-to-back years. With its 34th place finish this year and 37th last year, the Pack recorded its highest finishes in back-to-back years since 1994-95 and 1995-96 (32nd and 34th).
Hall of Fame: The second class of the NC State Athletic Hall of Fame includes two of the most accomplished coaches in Wolfpack history and eight athletes who distinguished themselves nationally in baseball, basketball, football, swimming, track and cross country and wrestling. The second class includes: Tommy Burleson (men's basketball), Mike Caldwell (baseball), Earle Edwards (football coach), Steve Gregg (men's swimming), Torry Holt (football), Ronnie Shavlik (men's basketball), Norm Sloan (men's basketball coach), Betty Springs Geiger (track & field/cross country), Andrea Stinson (women's basketball), Sylvester Terkay (wrestling), and Philip Rivers (football - Rivers was elected by the committee, but will defer until a later class when his schedule allows him to attend the induction). The inaugural class was enshrined during a celebration at Reynolds Coliseum on October 5, 2012, and the second class induction will be held November 22, 2013.
In the Classroom: Three NC State student-athletes were awarded ACC postgraduate scholarships in 2013 while another earned the Honorary Award. In the history of the program, NC State boasts the highest number of these honorees among league schools. The Pack also had a pair of student-athletes earn an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship following the 2012-13 school year. NC State had 110 student-athletes graduate in the 2012-13 academic year, and 315 student-athletes were named scholar-athletes on campus (3.0 GPA or higher) in 2012-13.
