    2014 SPRING TRYOUTS

    Dates and Times: (those competing at Cheerleading and Dance Worlds or have a conflict with the April 17-18th dates should contact Harold Trammel immediately at 919-625-0099 or harold_trammel@ncsu.edu.

    April 17th: 5:30pm - check in and turn in forms, 6-9pm - learn tryout material, evaluate tumbling and practice stunts.


     

     

    April 18th: 9am - 9pm Small coed and Large coed tryouts

    Location: Carmichael Gym in the gymnastics area and court 11


    Tryout Requirements: 

    Small Coed

    • Stunts

      • Stretch double down (flyers)

      • Optional stunt (rewinds, full-ups, switch ups or handstand ups are recommended but not required) with another double down from a DIFFERENT body position

        • Flyers should show elite flexibility

        • Bases should show strength and control

    • Tumbling (will be evaluated on a non-spring floor)

      • Standing back tuck or standing full

      • Jump(s) to back tuck or standing full

      • Standing tumbling pass consisting of a back handspring tuck or better

      • Running tumbling pass consisting of a round off handspring tuck or better.

        • A full is recommended but is not required

    • Band cheer taught at tryouts

    • Brief interview

    Large Coed  

    • Stunts

      • Stretch double down (females)

      • Optional stunt (rewinds and full-ups are recommended but not required) with a double down from a DIFFERENT body position (Females)

    • Tumbling (will be evaluated on a non-spring floor)

      • Standing back tuck or standing full

      • Jump(s) to back tuck or standing full

      • Standing tumbling pass consisting of a back handspring tuck or better

      • Running tumbling pass consisting of a round off handspring tuck or better.

        • A full is recommended but is not required

    • Band cheer taught at tryouts

    • Brief interview

    Mascot

    • Work with our current mascots and mascot coach who will get you into costume and show you how to perform as a mascot. 

    • The dates and times for Saturday and Sunday will depend on the appearances that we can schedule for those days. 

    • Over the course of the weekend we will evaluate how you interact with our coaches and the mascots as well as your personality in costume. 

    • You may also be asked to create and perform a skit on final day.

    Eligibility to Tryout
    In order to participate in tryouts you MUST: 

    • Have been accepted to NC State OR must have applied and submitted your transcripts and test scores. During the semester you will need to be a full time student in good academic standing.

    • Pay $25 registration fee, due on the first day of tryouts.

    • Bring the following completed information on the FIRST DAY of tryouts.

    1) A copy of a Sports Physical dated within the last six months. If you have not had a Sports Physical within the last six months there is a form attached that can be completed by a physician. You can take the form to Student Health Services but you MUST make an appointment first. There will be a charge for the physical at Student Health Services and you will be responsible for any and all charges associated with the physical.

    2) You must complete the Liability Waiver that is attached. If you are under 18 your parent/guardian MUST sign the form also. If they are out of town they can fax the signed form to the Sports Medicine Office Fax # 919-515-6056.

    3) You MUST provide us with a result of a sickle cell test. If you already have one you can bring it or fax it to 919-515-6056. If you do not have one - you can obtain one at a medical facility of your choice OR if you are a current student at NCSU - you can go to Student Health Services to request one for a "try-out". To do this you need to go to Medical Records on the first floor of Student Health Services and request a Sickle Cell Test. There will be a charge for this. You will be responsible for this charge. Ask the Lab to fax your results to the Athletic Training Room (515-6056). You will NOT be allowed to try out without the result of this test. These test results may take up to a week to return, so please plan accordingly.

    General Information:

    • Tryouts will be closed and only those trying out will be allowed to enter the tryout facility.

    • All decisions are final and up to the discretion of the coaching staff who will be evaluating each applicant.
