No. 14 Wolfpack Rifle Breaks Two Records Against Air Force

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The 14th-ranked NC State rifle team set new program records for the combined team total as well as the team air rifle mark, but the Wolfpack came up short against Air Force, 4,636-4,619, on Saturday.
Virginia Military Institute finished third overall in the meet with a 4,483 combined team score, while The Citadel’s co-ed team finished fourth with a 4,476 total.
The day opened with the air rifle competition, where junior Madeline Pike fired a 590 to lead all shooters in the event. Another strong team effort enabled the squad to top last weekend’s record, as graduate student Bryan Cross matched his personal-best with a 583, sophomore Dani Foster notched a 582 and freshman Daniel Cliff followed up with a 575 score. Last weekend’s team air rifle record of 2,325 was pushed to the side following Saturday’s performance as the team totaled 2,330 in the competition.
In smallbore, both Foster and Pike fired 575 totals, while Cliff notched a 571 score. Cross followed up with a 568 mark, while freshman Alex Martin shot a 566 in the event.
Pike finished the day with a 1,165 overall score to lead NC State, as Foster followed up with a 1,158 aggregate. Cross closed the meet with a 1,151 total, while Cliff posted a 1,146 score.
The Wolfpack will travel back to Dahlonega, Ga., on Saturday, Feb. 2, to compete against Memphis in its regular-season finale.
