MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The No. 18 NC State rifle team was topped by No. 2 Kentucky and No. 3 West Virginia this weekend. The Wolfpack combined to fire a new school record in air rifle, shooting 2318 against West Virginia on Sunday.
NC State shot a score of 2283 in smallbore and 2308 in air rifle for a combined total of 4591 against Kentucky on Saturday. The Wolfpack was led by Freshman Dani Foster, who took home fourth place finishes in both smallbore and air rifle.
Foster fired a 576 in smallbore, and a 586 in air rifle. Foster's air rifle score was a personal record, and the third-best mark in school history. She also set the record for combined score, with her 1162.
Madeline Pike and William Teller finished fifth and sixth in smallbore, shooting scores of 573 and 571, respectively. Pike's smallbore score was good for a new personal record, while Teller tied his season best. Bryan Cross also took home a top-10 finish in the event, placing 10th with his score of 563.
The Wolfpack shot a combined score of 4577 against West Virginia on Sunday, shooting 2259 in smallbore and 2318 in air rifle. Foster led the Pack again, topping her smallbore score from the previous day by one point to place second in 577. She also finished fifth in air rifle (581).
Cross placed sixth in air rifle, shooting a season-best mark of 580, just one point shy of his personal record.
NC State will return to action Saturday, Feb. 18 at the NCAA Qualifier in Charleston, S.C.
