FT. BENNING, GA - NC State dominated conference foes Wofford and The Citadel this weekend, posting a school record 1,507 in air rifle to soundly defeat two squads from The Citadel and one from Wofford. Overall, NC State claimed eight of the top-10 individuals. Three freshmen and Ryan Dorety composed the scoring squad, with true freshman Jennifer Marshall toping the team with a 381. The Citadel Women's team finished third with a 1,434, while Wofford finished fourth at 1,042.
"This was a very solid team performance and our team outlook is strong," coach Keith Miller remarked. "Our three freshmen all shot well and showed good poise in their first collegiate match. Even though this set the team air rifle record, all of our shooters are improving daily, so we expect to get even stronger as the year progresses."
The rest of the NC State rifle team dominated the competition as well, with the "Red Pack" (the second group of four), finishing nine points ahead of The Citadel, as well.
NC State will return to action October 1st in the first SEARC match of the year in Dahlonega, Ga.
