Teller Takes Individual Crown at SEARC 2
Oct. 18, 2010
CHARLESTON, S.C. - NC State rifle finished second out of seven teams at the SEARC 2 meet October 17 in Charleston, S.C.
Sophomore William Teller led all shooters with his second score of 580 or better this season, a 581. Teller's victory marks the second time in as many SEARC events that the Wolfpack has had captured the individual title. Bryan Cross finished as the highest individual scorer at SEARC 1.
NC State's second place finish improves their record to 11-3 (9-2 SEARC). The Citadel came away with their second victory in SEARC competition, topping the Wolfpack 2,286 to 2,266.
Freshman Madeline Pike continues to improve with each match, setting a new personal record of 563 in air rifle. Pike's score earned her an 11th place finish out of 52 shooters.
Sophomore Bryan Cross finished fourth overall with his score of 572. Cross has consistently posted strong scores for NC State in all three events this season. His 572 actually represents his lowest air rifle score of the year, following a 577 at Ole Miss and a 576 at SEARC 1.
"We were a little off," said NC State rifle head coach Keith Miller, "and The Citadel shot very well. In fact, they may have been close to a team record."
"We identified a few areas that need work and have already addressed them," said Miller. "Heading into the next match, as long as we continue to show adequate overall improvement in our scores, we'll be satisfied."
The Wolfpack has two weeks to prepare for its next match, a meet against Ohio State and Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. on October 30.
