NC State Rifle Impressive With Win At SEARC #1
Oct. 26, 2002
The NC State rifle team won the first Southeastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) match of the season. The event was hosted by North Georgia, with the Wolfpack winning due in part to Ryan Dorety. The sophomore led the team with a personal best score of 374. In addition to leading the Pack, Dorety's score was the second highest in the match, behind Carra Landrum's 376. Landrum shot as an individual representing Kennesaw State University (GA). As a team, the Wolfpack posted an impressive win with a cumulative 1471.
Senior Joe Upton and sophomore John Maroglio tied for State with scores of 372. This was the highest score so far this year for both, and a personal best match score for Upton. Freshman Melanie Harris also fired a personal best of 365, but her score did not count towards the team score as she shot as an individual. Sophomore Laura Ferrell's 353 was the other team score.
This win puts NC State in the lead for the SEARC Championship, which is computed from scores from each match attended as well as the SEARC Championship, in which all schools must compete.
SEARC schools Birmingham Southern and Georgia Tech did not attend the match.
