Jan. 18, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. - The 14th-ranked NC State rifle team will travel to No. 3 West Virginia on Sunday, Jan. 19, for the squad's fifth Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) match of the season. The competition is slated to begin at 8 a.m. inside the WVU Rifle Range.
"We're coming off a good first match for the semester and had several good training sessions this week, so I'm happy with our preparation for this match," said head coach Keith Miller. "We like the West Virginia range and have fired some of our best individual and team scores there in the past few years."
The Wolfpack (16-6, 0-4 GARC) recorded its second-highest score of the season in its last outing at Murray State, as the squad posted a score of 4612 to finish second at the match. The team shot a score of 2332 in the air rifle competition and a total of 2280 in smallbore.
West Virginia (6-0, 4-0 GARC) enters the match undefeated after defeating the Navy Midshipmen in its last competition. The squad will be competing for the first time in the 2014 calendar year, as it was last in action on Nov. 16, 2013.
"West Virginia is really strong this year, staying in the top three so far," Miller added. "The race for the top team will likely come down to them, Alaska, and Kentucky."
