No. 13 NC State Rifle Meets No. 9 Memphis
Feb. 1, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. – After receiving its highest regular-season ranking at No. 13 this past Tuesday, the NC State rifle team will close its regular-season Great American Rifle Conference schedule when it travels back to Dahlonega, Ga., to take on ninth-ranked Memphis this Saturday, Feb. 2.
“This will be our final regular season GARC match of the season, so we're very focused on our preparations,” said head coach Keith Miller. “We just need to stay positive, stay focused on our own performance and execute well. The rest will take care of itself.”
The Wolfpack has been in a record-setting frenzy in its last few meets, particularly in the air rifle competition. The squad has set a new record for combined score in the event in each of its last two contests, while several shooters recorded personal bests in the air rifle.
At SEARC 5 on Jan. 19, the team combined for a 2,325 score in air rifle behind personal bests by freshman Daniel Cliff (585) and graduate student Bryan Cross (583). Last weekend against Air Force, the squad topped that mark with a 2,330 aggregate in the event, propelling NC State to a school record, 4,619 combined team total, after compiling a 2,289 overall score in smallbore.
Following Saturday’s match, NC State will have a week off to prepare for the Collegiate Sectionals and NCAA Qualifier.
