NC State Rifle Closes Season at SEARC Championships Saturday
March 1, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. - The 13th-ranked NC State rifle team will chase its second-straight conference title as it closes out its 2012-13 campaign Saturday, Mar. 2, at the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference Championships in Charleston, S.C.
"Our primary goal is to have the top team average and retain our title," said head coach Keith Miller. "After that, we hope to have the individual champion as well."
The Wolfpack has won six total SEARC crowns in program history (2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012), and is in search of its sixth in the last seven seasons.
In each of the last three years, NC State (32-7, 19-0 SEARC, 1-5 GARC) has produced the SEARC individual champion as sophomore Dani Foster took last year's title in just her first season. Graduate student Bryan Cross claimed the award as a junior in 2010-11 and Katie Siegert accomplished the feat in 2009-10.
"Individually, four of our shooters have among the top five averages in the conference - Daniel Cliff, Maddy Pike, Bryan Cross, and Dani Foster - in that order," Miller said. "However, the scores of all four are very close and just behind the current individual leader, Cassidy Bragg of North Georgia University. They're all so close that the match on Saturday likely will see some reshuffling of the order going into finals."
Tomorrow's schedule for NC State's participants is as follows:
