Rifle Finishes Second in SEARC Championships
March 5, 2002
The NC State rifle team ended its 2001-02 season with a second place finish in the South Eastern Air Rifle Confference (SEARC) Championships, shooting a 1452, to first place Citadel's 1468. The Wolfpack also ends its season in second place overall in the conference.
"Our goal this year was to win the leage championship," said NC State head rifle coach Keith Miller. "While we fell short of our goal, our scores were significantly higher than last year. In fact if the Citadel had not improved as significantly as it did, we might have still been able to win the conference championship.
"Overall the scores that NC state and the Citadel fired this year have raised the level of competition in the entire league. The top two or three schools are now very, very competitive. Next year should be a really interesting season to watch as we continue to improve."
Joe Upton led NC State as he shot the high score in the finals section, finishing third overall with 462. Upton also finished third overall in the conference this season. Jason Rice was the next highest NC State finisher, shooting a 454, followed by John Moroglio's 450.
