Wolfpack Rifle Geared for SEARC #2
Oct. 19, 2012
RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State rifle team will travel to Milledgeville, Ga., on Saturday, Oct. 20, for its second Southeastern Air Rifle Conference and fourth overall meet of the season. The Wolfpack swept the first meet of the season back on Sept. 29 with a 4582 team score.
"This weekend's match at Georgia Military College is our final SEARC match of the semester, so we are really focused on it," said head coach Keith Miller. "[Our] conference rival The Citadel is improved over last year, so they are working very hard to challenge us. We've got to earn our place with every shot."
Last time out, the Pack set three school records, including a 4599 team total, despite a tough setback against Alaska-Fairbanks. Junior Madeline Pike fired a program-best 585 in the smallbore competition which, combined with her 585 air rifle score, set the new program standard with an 1171 aggregate score.
A small change has been made in advance of this weekend's competition, as original plans included having the teams shoot at paper targets.
"Originally this match was to be the only match we fire all year on the old paper targets," Miller said. "However, between Clemson, The Citadel, and NC State, we're loaning some of our state of the art MegaLink target systems to GMC for the weekend so that everyone can fire this match on electronically scored target systems."
