Nov. 15, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. – The 13th-ranked NC State rifle team will head north this weekend to Annapolis, Md., for a matchup against Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) foe, No. 16 Navy on Saturday, Nov. 16. The competition is slated to get underway at 8 a.m. inside the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.
“The match this weekend will be our first match at Navy in over a decade,” said head coach Keith Miller. “We're excited to have them as the newest member of the GARC and thus be able to compete with them on an annual basis going forward. West Virginia will also be at the match for a contest with Navy, so the level of competition will be quite high.”
The Wolfpack (15-4, 13-0 SEARC, 0-3 GARC) is coming off a strong weekend as the squad fired a score of 4604 at the fifth Southeastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) match of the season to claim the top spot. More notably, the Pack shot a 2336 in the air rifle competition to tie the program record in the event.
Freshman Lucas Kozeniesky paced the squad in the event as he charted a score of 587, good for the best score in the competition. The Fairfax, Va., native owns the team’s best average in the event on the season (580.4) and has also fired the highest air rifle score with a 589 tally.
It will be the first meeting between the two schools since Nov. 11, 2000. The Midshipmen are in their first season as a member of the GARC. Navy lost to top-ranked Kentucky in its last outing, 4693-4593.
