INDIANAPOLIS - The NC State women's swimming & diving team wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2013 NCAA Championships on Thursday, Mar. 21. The Wolfpack competed in the 200 freestyle relay, 50 freestyle, 400 medley relay and one-meter diving events.

"We got off to a slow start at the NCAA Championships," said head coach Braden Holloway. "We put together the best lineup we could to put ourselves in position to score some points, but we came up a little short. We'll need to execute our races better on Friday in order to get ourselves on the board."

State began the day by taking part in the 200 freestyle relay. Hannah Freyman, Marifrances Henley, Allison Hendren and Riki Bonnema teamed up to finish with a time of 1:30.60. Bonnema and Grogg participated in the 50 freestyle, timing in at 22.95 and 23.38, respectively.

In the 400 medley relay, Freyman, Lauren Poli, Grogg and Henley combined to record a time of 3:40.09. Sophomore Rachel Mumma turned in a score of 271.65.

"It's everyone's first time being here so we have to make some adjustments and learn how to be fast and that's all part of the learning curve, but we hope to get out of the learning curve on day two," Holloway added.

NC State will return to action at the championships on Friday, Mar. 22, when it competes in the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay. Grogg will also take part in the 100 backstroke, while Mumma will compete in the three-meter diving event.
