Swimming & Diving Sweeps Davidson

CARY, N.C. - NC State swimming and diving swept Davidson on Saturday, with the men taking a 183.5-102.5 decision, and the women winning 175-115. The Wolfpack men move to 3-0 (1-0 ACC) on the year, while the women improve to 2-1 (0-1 ACC). Both Davidson teams slide to 0-3.
Lauren Poore, Jessica Ward, Zina Grogg and Julianna Prim got the women started by claiming the 200-medley relay with a 1:48.04, and Maggie McEnerney (17:40.39) and Kirsten Esplin (17:54.26) followed by placing first and second in the 1650 freestyle. Erica Waters (1:54.33), Jennifer Kopenitz (1:54.36) and Allison Hendren (1:55.28) grabbed the top three finishes in the 200 freestyle, while Morgan Robertson (26.91), Amanda Panty (27.77) and Prim (28.25) did the same in the 50 backstroke.
Marifrances Henley (30.80) and Kelsey Liu (31.81) placed first and second in the 50 breaststroke, and Jordan Paavola won the 100 butterfly on a 57.00. Kirstyn Shepler qualified for NCAA diving zones with a 281.50 on the 1-meter dive, grabbing her first win of the season, while Hannah Hopkins claimed the 3-meter dive with a 272.85.
Poore (58.45), Kopenitz (59.27) and Katie Robinson (1:00.82) finished first through third in the 100 backstroke, and Meghan Thompson (1:08.32) and Esplin (1:10.26) went first and second in the 100 breaststroke. Liu (5:07.87), Christina McCann (5:13.12) and Jessica McBroom (5:13.79) then offered the best three swims in the 500 freestyle.
Prim put up a 26.36 in the 50 butterfly, and Kopenitz posted a 2:09.25 in the 200 individual medley. Erica Waters, Bailey Woodling, Grogg and Hendren finished things up with a 1:39.46 in the 200-freestyle relay.
Ivan Kopas, Dan Forsythe, Barrett Miesfeld and Conor Brennan won the 200-medley relay with a 1:32.70, and Brandon Kingston (16:24.17), Andrew Tollefson (16:38.19) and Jimmy Ross (16:55.59) placed first, second and third in the 1650 freestyle. Kopas followed with a 23.77 in the 50 backstroke, and Forsythe's 27.04 was tops in the 50 breaststroke. Gaites Brown (51.07), Mike Seiferth (51.17) and Ben Mechak (52.06) took first through third in the 100 butterfly.
Kopas won again in the 100 backstroke with a 49.51, as Brown (52.91) and Facundo Monteiro (53.64) took second and third. Ian Bishop claimed the 100 breaststroke on a 57.67, and Mechak won the 500 freestyle with a 4:42.46. Miesfeld swam a 24.98 in the 50 butterfly, Kohl Hurdle posted a 1:53.91 in the 200 individual medley, and Kingston, Boffa, Gabe Davis and Monteiro combined for a 1:27.37 in the 200-freestyle relay.
NC State swimming and diving will return to action next Friday, Oct. 29, in nearby Durham, N.C., at Duke. The Wolfpack women will also face Campbell in addition to taking on the Blue Devils.
