    BATON ROUGE, La. - The NC State women's swimming & diving team dropped its first dual meet of the season against Louisiana State on Saturday, 167-132. The Wolfpack captured first in six events, but were unable to overtake the Tigers in the final point standings.

    "We competed against a strong LSU program that was ready to compete," head coach Braden Holloway said. "We battled them well and I'm happy about the way the women competed and fought."

    The meet opened with the 200 medley relay event, in which Riki Bonnema, Hannah Freyman, Zina Grogg and Lauren Poli teamed up to finish second with a time of 1:42.81, just seconds shy of LSU for the lead. 

    Freshman Kristin Connors followed the event with a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle, stopping the clock at 10:08.94. Connors also collected first in the 500 freestyle with another impressive showing, timing in at 4:57.16.

    Senior Marifrances Henley blazed through the 200 freestyle event with a time of 1:50.19, en route to collecting first place in the event. Julianna Prim and Mariah Hamil also competed in the event, posting times of 1:51.24 and 1:51.88, respectively. 

    Grogg and Freyman finished first and second in the 100 backstroke, with Grogg clocking in at 55.39 seconds, while Freyman timed in at 55.48 seconds. Freyman also competed in the 100 freestyle earning first place honors in 50.44 seconds. 

    Sophomore Katelyn Linker swam the 200 butterfly for the Pack, posting a time of 2:06.16, claiming fourth place. Grogg had a strong showing in the 100 butterfly, but was edged by a few tenths of a second and settled for second place (56.03).

    In the breaststroke events, Poli finished third in the 100 (1:04.77), while Kelsey Liu  completed the 200 event with a time of 2:18.83, highlighting the Pack's performance in those two events. 

    State's strongest event of the day would be the 500 freestyle, as Connors, Prim, and Henley finished first, second and third, respectively. Connors recorded a time of 4:57.16, Prim clocked in at 4:58.59 and Henley completed the event with a time of 4:59.75.

    In diving, senior Hannah Hopkins and Rachel Mumma finished fourth and fifth on the three-meter diving board. Hopkins scored a 282.23 and Mumma recorded a 246.15. 

    "We obviously have some work to do and we look forward to getting back to work," Holloway said. "We'd like to thank the Tigers for  allowing us to compete with them."

    The Wolfpack will return to action Nov. 2 against East Carolina at 5 p.m., when it hosts the first home meet of the season.
