Pack Leads After Day One of Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C - Both of NC State's swimming and diving teams lead competition after day one of the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational. The women's team paces the group with 314 points and the men headline its crowd with 403.5 points.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team composed of Simonas Bilis, Jonathan Boffa, Joe Martin and David Williams, finished first in the event with a time of 1:20.75. For the women, Riki Bonnema, Hannah Freyman, Zina Grogg and Marifrances Henley teamed up to finish second in the 200 freestyle relay, stopping the clock at 1:33.56.
Freshman Kristin Connors completed the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:55.96, en route to claiming second place in the event.
In the 50 freestyle, freshman Riki Bonnema recorded the fastest time, timing in at 23.18 seconds. Henley finished closely behind with a time of 23.58, good for fifth. Bilis and Boffa claimed second and third, respectively, with times of 20.34 and 20.43.
The 400 medley relay teams also produced strong results for the Wolfpack as the men finished first, while the women were second. Ivan Kopas, Ian Bishop, Barrett Miesfeld and Boffa collaborated to post a time of 3:16.22. Freyman, Lauren Poli, Grogg and Henley clocked in at 3:46.40.
In diving, Hannah Hopkins and Hudson Rains led the way on the platform dive. Hopkins scored a 271.90, while Rains scored a 307.45, both were good for first place. The Pack finished first and second on the men's and women's sides as Rachel Mumma claimed second for the women and Charles Retter finished second for the men.
The Pack will return to action on Friday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. with the preliminary rounds, followed by the finals at 6 p.m. in the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational. Live results can be found by clicking HERE.
