    Swimming Gets Started at Terp Cup

    COLLEGE PARK, M.D. -- The NC State swim team competed in the first day of the Terp Cup at the University of Maryland. The men’s relay teams hit two NCAA B cuts, while the women had three all-time top-10 marks.

    Conor Brennan, Joe Martin, Gaites Brown, and Jonathan Boffa, combined for a time of 1:20.62 in the 200-freestyle relay, good for first place and an NCAA B cut. The foursome, who already owned the top time in the conference in that event, topped their previous best mark by half of a second.

    Brandon Kingston, John Newell, and Brian Via all competed in the 500 freestyle. Kingston placed sixth (4:33.66), Newell took eighth (4:37.36) and Via was eleventh (4:37.77).

    Stephen Coetzer (1:52.35), Kohl Hurdle (152.74), Greg Baskwell (1:53.19), Ian Bishop (1:53.38), Matt Thomas (1:53.66), Ivan Kopas (1:54.95), Jake Matysek (1:55.20), Andrew Tollefson (1:56.52) and Maxim Litvinov (1:58.08) all competed in the 200 individual medley.

    In the 50 freestyle, Boffa placed second in a time of 20.50, while Martin took third in 20.65. Brennan placed fifth in 20.89, and Brown was seventh in 20.99. David Williams (20.89), Barrett Miesfeld (21.12) and Gerard Woody (21.32) also competed.

    Camper, Bishop, Miesfeld and Boffa swam a time of 3:17.18 in the 400-medley relay, good for first place and the Wolfpack’s second NCAA B cut of the meet and the fastest time in the ACC this season.

    Marifrances Henley placed fourth in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:54.96, while Julianna Prim took eighth in 4:58.03.

    Kelsey Liu (2:05.23), Kayla Grim (2:05.65) and Katelyn Linker (2:06.83) competed in the 200 individual medley. Liu and Grim’s times were good for the eighth and tenth best all-time marks in school history.

    Hannah Freyman and Henley placed sixth and seventh in the 50 freestyle, swimming times of 23.77 and 23.89, respectively. Freyman’s time of 23.55 in the preliminaries was good for the eighth best all-time mark. Zina Grogg (23.98), Allison Hendren (23.99) and Erica Waters (24.63) also competed.

    Freyman, Liu, Grogg, and Henley combined for a 3:51.36 in the 400-medley relay to place sixth.

    The Wolfpack will return to action on Friday at the Terp Cup, with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m.
