    Bilis Finishes 15th in 50 Free at European SC Championships

    HERNING, Denmark – Sophomore Simonas Bilis of the NC State swimming & diving team finished 15th in the 50 freestyle on Thursday at the European Short Course National Championships.

    Bilis, a native of Panevezys, Lithuania, reached the semifinals with a time of 22.14 in the morning preliminary competition, before finishing 15th overall with a time of 22.02. Freshman Andreas Schiellerup also competed in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle and he finished 32nd of 59 swimmers with a time of 22.30.

    On the women’s side, freshman Lotta Nevalainen competed in the preliminaries of the 100 freestyle and finished 38th with a time of 55.52.

    Anton Ipsen, an incoming freshman in the class of 2014, competed in the preliminaries of the 400 freestyle and finished 22nd of 62 swimmers with a time of 3:45.92.

    Competition will resume Friday with preliminaries scheduled for 9 a.m. local time and finals set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
