Jan. 3, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State swimming & diving team is set to begin the 2014 portion of its schedule when the squad travels to Athens, Ga., to compete against University of Georgia inside the Gabrielsen Natatorium. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
“We are looking forward to a great and fun atmosphere in going against the Georgia Bulldogs,” said head coach Braden Holloway. “It’s not everyday that you get to compete against the defending champions on the women’s side and a top-10 men’s team year-in and year-out.”
The Wolfpack men enter the meet with a 3-2 ledger for the season after defeating UNC Wilmington in its most recent dual meet, while the women’s squad owns a 5-1 mark this year and also captured a victory against the Seahawks in its most recent dual meet.
State was last in competition as a team at the 2013 Jade Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational hosted by North Carolina, where the squad posted a second-place finish. Freshman Andreas Schiellerup highlighted the competition for the Pack as he posted a school record in the men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 46.67.
Georgia enters the meet on Saturday with an undefeated 6-0 ledger and a No. 4 ranking on the women’s side, while the 10th-ranked men’s team holds a 5-1 record for the season.
“Tomorrow we have an opportunity to go against some of the world’s best, some of the nation’s best and a lot of Olympians and champions,” Holloway said. “We are looking to finish this segment with a bang and get what we can out of our troops in representing NC State.”
