Clemson Tops Wolfpack Women's Swimming and Diving
The NC State women's swimming and diving team traveled to Clemson on Saturday in its final regular season meet. The Wolfpack couldn't escape the Tigers, as Clemson won 168-131, despite the Wolfpack's third highest point total in a loss this season. NC State fell to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the ACC. NC State freshman diver Emily Cheffins set a school record in the 3-meter boards in the meet.
NC State got a spark early, as Maresa Like-Mathews and Anna Linkenauger finished 2-3 in the 1650 freestyle for the Pack.
Lucy Lindsey finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.02, just off of her fastest time this season. She later finished third in the 100 free with a 53.25. Kerry Whitson was close behind in fourth, swimming a 1:54.06.
Linkenauger, Jessica Stewart and Sarah Merritt all score for the Pack in the 100 breaststroke, finishing
Stewart won the 200 breaststroke later in the meet as she holds the top 100 and 200 time on the team in the breaststroke events.
Linkenauger was second in the 200 backstroke and fellow freshman Brianna Grover was third in the event.
Lindsay Barwegen, Britney Richardson and Kathryn Pegg also finished
Barwegen won the 500 free and Laura Neely and Amy Baskwell finished 3-4 for the Pack in the final regular season meet for all three of these swimmers.
Freshman Emily Cheffins was third in the 1-meter, and won the 3-meter competition with a school record score. Natalie Swisher finished second in the 3-meter and Chelsea Ale was third.
Patrice Dason won the 100 butterfly for NC State, with Victoria Niemeyer, Martha Marino and Pegg close behind in
Merritt was first in the 400 IM, with Like-Mathews (2nd), Kathryn Creech (3rd) and Taryn Shelley (4th) right on her heels.
NC State will now send its squad to the ACC Championships from February 14-17 in
