Davies Named ACC Swimming & Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year
RALEIGH, N.C. NC State’s Kristin Davies was named 2008-09 ACC Women’s Swimming & Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, June 10, as announced by Commissioner John Swofford. The honor marks her second showing on the All-ACC Academic Team.

“This honor is more great recognition for the fantastic job that Kristin has done not only as an athlete, but as a student,” said NC State head swimming and diving coach Brooks Teal. “We take great pride in how our swimmers and divers balance the demands of being a student-athlete, and Kristin epitomizes that commitment to both academic and athletic success that we have within our program.”

Davies became the first national champion in the history of the Wolfpack women’s swimming and diving program with a 339.65 in the platform dive on Saturday, March 21 at the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas. Her title is also the first national championship in diving at NC State on either the men or women's side. She also was named All-ACC this season, as well as ACC Women's Diver of the Year.

A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, she was also awarded with NC State’s annual H.C. Kennett Award as the top female student-athlete for the year.

To be eligible for the scholar-athlete of the year award, student-athletes must be in their third or fourth year of competition and have a 3.00 grade point average over their career and over the last two semesters. Nominees are then judged by a committee looking at both academic performance (60%) and athletic achievement (40%).
