RALEIGH, N.C. - Nine members of the NC State swim team will compete at the Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb., beginning on Monday, June 25. The prestigious event will be held at the CenturyLink Center, and will run until July 2.
Jonathan Boffa, Joe Martin, Barrett Miesfeld, David Williams, Michael Camper, John Newell, Taylor Harris and Matt Thomas will represent the men's program, while Marifrances Henley will be the lone Pack women's swimmer competing for a coveted spot in the 2012 Olympic Games.
Four NC State swimmers will participate in the 100 freestyle- Boffa, Williams, Thomas, and Henley. Martin will partake in the 50 freestyle. Miesfeld and Newell will compete in the butterfly events, with Miesfeld swimming the 100 and Newell the 200.
Rounding out the competitors, Camper will compete in the 200 backstroke, and Harris will participate in the 400 individual medley.
Former NC State swimmer and gold medalist, Cullen Jones, will look to make his second straight Olympic team at the trials. Jones, who won a national championship while part of the Pack, is the current American record holder in the 50 freestyle.
