Bilis to Compete in World University Games

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State sophomore swimmer Simonas Bilis will represent his native country of Lithuania this week in the 2013 World University Games held in Kazan, Russia. He will compete in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events.
Competition for Bilis will begin on Thursday, July 11 with the preliminary and semifinal heats of the 200 freestyle, followed by the final on Friday, July 12. The Panevezys, Lithuania native will also take part in the 100 freestyle event on Saturday, July 13. The semifinal for the event will be held Saturday evening and the final will convene on Sunday.
Bilis' final event will be the 50 freestyle. Preliminary and semifinal heats of the event are Monday, July 15, and the finals session will be held Tuesday, July 16.
As a freshman, Bilis registered the program's second-fastest time in the 200 freestyle with a 1:35.56 clocking. He also swam the school's third-best time in the 100 freestyle (43.11) and fourth-best time in the 50 freestyle (19.66). Bilis' time in the 50 freestyle was the fastest among all NCAA Division I freshmen last season.
He also claimed All-America honors at the 2013 NCAA Championships as a member of the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays. In addition, Bilis swam a leg on the ACC Champion 400 freestyle relay team to garner All-ACC honors.
