Pack Swimming to Compete in US Open Championships

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s and women’s swimming teams will travel to Irvine, Calif., to compete in the 2013 US Open Championships sponsored by USA Swimming. The event will commence Tuesday, July 30 and convene through Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Woollett Aquatics Center.
A total of 21 Wolfpack student-athletes will be competing at the championships, including 17 returning swimmers and four incoming freshmen. Seniors Ian Bishop, Jonathan Boffa, Maximus Litvinov, Barrett Miesfeld and Matt Thomas will make the trip from the men’s team, while classmates Zina Grogg, Kelsey Liu and Kaitlin Mills will represent the women.
Four of the Wolfpack’s incoming freshmen, Kayla Brumbaum, Chad Harrington, Rachel Muller and Stuart Sharp, also met qualifying standards to take part in the event. In order to qualify for the championships, an individual must have achieved the time standard in the event during the official qualifying period from March 29, 2012 – July 22, 2013.
Preliminary heats will begin at 9 a.m. each day followed by the finals session commencing at 5 p.m. Tuesday’s schedule consists of the 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, women’s 800 freestyle, men’s 1500 freestyle and the women’s 400 freestyle relay.
