RALEIGH, N.C.- The NC State swimming and diving team will open the season on Friday, October 5, by hosting the All-North Carolina Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The two-day event will begin on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 10 a.m.
“We’re excited for the first annual All-North Carolina Invitational,” said head coach Braden Holloway. “It’s going to be a great environment where we bring the community of swimming and diving in the state of North Carolina together.”
A total of 13 schools will be competing in the invitational along with the Wolfpack including Campbell, Catawba, Davidson, Duke, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Greensboro College, Lenoir-Rhyne, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina-Asheville, Pfeiffer, Queens University of Charlotte, and Wingate University.
“We have schools attending from all divisions, so it’s going to be a great event for a lot of schools to compete and spend some time around each other,” Holloway said. “Coach Todd DeSorbo has done a great job putting this meet together and preparing things for this weekend.”
Head coach Braden Holloway enters his second season with the Pack, after finishing the 2011-12 campaign with a 17-7 record. The men’s team returns 21 letterwinners, including all four members of the ACC Champion 400 medley relay team, Ian Bishop, Jonathan Boffa, Ivan Kopas, and Barrett Miesfeld. On the women’s side, 18 letterwinners return along with nine newcomers. Hannah Hopkins, an All-American diver in 2012, and All-ACC performer Hannah Freyman return to anchor the women’s team.
“I’m ready to get going,” Holloway said of starting the season. “I’m looking forward to seeing the team compete and learn some race strategy at the meet.”
Admission for the event is free, but parking at the Greensboro Aquatic Center will be $5 per day.
Results and a full recap will be posted to GoPack.com at the conclusion of each day.
