Oct. 14, 2011
RALEIGH, N.C. - Head coach Braden Holloway and the NC State swimming and diving program will officially get its 2011-12 campaign underway on the road this Saturday. The Wolfpack will travel to Christiansburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech, while the women will also battle James Madison. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The meet will stand as Coach Holloway's first return to Virginia Tech since being named head coach at State this past June. Holloway spent the previous seven seasons with the Hokie program, serving the last three years as associate head coach.
The Wolfpack men's squad returns 21 letterwinners from a season ago while bringing in nine new faces. Nine members of the team hold 15 all-time top-10 marks, with Brandon Kingston and Ian Bishop each boasting three, while Barrett Miesfeld owns the school record in the 100 butterfly. Divers Chris Arcara and Hudson Rains have competed at the NCAA diving zones each season of their careers at State.
On the women's end, 15 returning letterwinners and 12 newcomers comprise the roster. Ten swimmers boast 19 all-time top-10 marks, including 200 freestyle school-record holder Marifrances Henley's four, as well as four by Julianna Prim. Hannah Hopkins and Kirstyn Shepler have also competed at the NCAA diving zones in each of their previous seasons in Raleigh.
Following action on Saturday, State will return to the pool next Friday, Oct. 21, at Maryland at 3 p.m.
