Swimming & Diving to Open Season on Saturday
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s and women’s swimming and diving program will open its 2009-10 season this Saturday, Oct. 24 against ACC foes Duke and Maryland. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m. in College Park, Md.
Both Wolfpack teams gave alums, fans, family and friends a glimpse at the season ahead earlier this month at the annual Red & White Scrimmage. The Wolfpack men return 18 letterwinners from last season, including multiple school record-holder Mason McGee (200, 500 freestyle). Kevin Woodhull-Smith also owns the school record in the 200 individual medley. The women’s squad boasts 22 returnees, highlighted by Anna Linkenauger who owns program records in the 200 breaststroke and both 200 and 400 individual medley.
A year ago the men posted a 5-3 (3-3 ACC) record, while the women went 5-5 (2-4 ACC). Kristin Davies collected the first diving national championship in school history by picking up an NCAA crown in the platform dive, en route to being named ACC Diver of the Year and ACC Swimming & Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year. Davies also garnered All-America status.
