Swimming & Diving to Take on VT, WVU
RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State men and women’s swimming and diving teams will both take on Virginia Tech and West Virginia tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 25, in Blacksburg, Va. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The men’s squad stands at 1-0 after downing UMBC two weekends ago in its 2008-09 opener. Newcomers Gaites Brown and Jimmy Ross both made sterling first impressions, while seasoned veterans Stephen Mellor, Andrew Lester and Kevin Woodhull-Smith offered solid performances to kick off the new season.
The women stand at 2-0 (1-0 ACC) after topping ACC-foe Miami, as well as UMBC. Erica Smith, Jess Ward, Patrice Dason, Amanda Panty and Lucy Lindsey helped the Pack to dominate in the relay portion of the meet, while several newcomers including Meg Thompson, Danielle Carsuo and Katie Robinson, got their careers off on solid footing.
Both West Virginia teams lost at Penn State earlier this week. The Mountaineer men carry at 2-1 record with decisions over Xavier and East Carolina, while the women (2-2) have victories against Marshall and Xavier.
Saturday’s competition marks the start of the season for Virginia Tech.
Next Friday, Oct. 31, the Wolfpack men and women’s swimming and diving teams will host Maryland and Duke at Casey Natatorium on campus. Competition will begin at 6 p.m., and admission is free.
