BLACKSBURG, Va. – NC State junior Kris Kornegay-Gober of Washington, D.C., established a new personal record and won the high jump on the final day of the Hokie Invitational indoor track meet at Virginia Tech’s Rector Field House on Saturday.
The three-time All-ACC performer joined redshirt freshman Tremanisha Taylor of the Wolfpack women’s team in winning events on Saturday. Friday evening, senior Lawanda Henry won the 20-pound weight throw.
Kornegay-Gober hit a mark of 7-feet, 2 ¼-inches to tie with unattached performer Joe Kindred. Kornegay-Gober’s previous top indoor mark was 6-feet, 10 ¾-inches and his best outdoor mark was 7-feet, ¼-inch.
For Taylor, of Henderson, N.C., her mark of 47-feet, 11-inches gave her the second win in the shot put in the Wolfpack’s three meets this season. She also won the event at the Christopher Newport Invitational in Newport News, Va., in December.
In other events, junior Karimah Shepherd finished third in the long jump, while All-American mid-distance runner Kenyetta Iyevbele was third in the 1,000-meter run, followed closely by teammates Tiayonna Blackmon, Erin Mercer and Deanna Foshee in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
