Track & Field Completes First Day of Hokie Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The NC State Track and Field team completed day one of the Hokie Invitational on Friday, earning five first-place finishes on the night, including a whopping 17 top-five finishes.
Andrew Colley took home top honors in the one mile run with a time of 4:12.25, while Bobby Mintz (4:16.87) and Adrian Ross (4:20.17) each finished right behind Colley in third and fourth place. On the women's side, Emily Pritt earned a first-place finish in the one mile event with a time of 4:53.73. Also placing in the top-10 behind Pritt were Erin Mercer (5:01.96) in fifth, and Samantha Norman (5:07.52) in 10th.
Jule Rich continued his excellent start to the indoor season, winning the men's weight throw with a toss of 64' 05" (19.63m), while Nathaniel Williams finished in fourth in the same event with a heave of 58' 04.75" (17.80m).
Alexis Perry won the 60m hurdles for a second consecutive week, clearing the finish line with a season best time of 8.46. Paisley Simmons, who won the 60m dash at the Gene Anderson Invitational last week, improved her personal best time in the event with a sprint of 7.50, taking home second-place in the process.
Graham Crawford (8:09.28), Matt Sonnenfeldt (8:16.15) & George Parsons (8:22.68) finished second, fourth and seventh, respectively in the men's 3,000m run while Tyra Lea finished in fourth place in the women's 300m run with time of 39.46. William Taylor-Haynes earned a fifth-place nod in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.27.
Vibushan Sivakumaran rounds out State's top performers on the night with a seventh-place finish (2:30.93) in the men's 1000m.
The Wolfpack will take to the track tomorrow for the second and final day of the Hokie Invitational.
