Norman Wins Mile Run At UNC Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – NC State sophomores Samantha Norman and Jordan Jenkins finished first and second, respectively, in the mile run at the UNC Invitational indoor track meet to lead the Wolfpack in the final day of the two-day event. Norman, running in her first event of the season, turned in a time of 5:03.17 to take the victory. Jenkins, also in her initial event of 2012, followed with a time of 5:07.19. For the No. 24 Wolfpack men, junior Daniel Fretz was second in the 200 meters, freshman Carl Marant was third in the triple jump and redshirt freshman Jule Rich was fourth in the shot put. Sophomore Elizabeth Shuman of the Wolfpack women’s team finished second in the high jump with a mark of 5-feet, 5-inches, followed by junior teammate Danielle Adams in third and freshman Caitlynn Filla. Redshirt freshman Tremanisha Taylor was second in the women’s shot put. The Wolfpack split its squads next weekend, sending select individuals to three different meets: the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York, the Virginia Tech Elite in Blacksburg, Va., and the Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
