Personal-Best Marks Highlight First Day of Tyson Invitational
Feb. 8, 2013 Tyson Invite Day 1 Results RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State track & field team finished the first day of competition at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, Va., Friday evening. At the University of Arkansas, freshman Jonathan Addison had one of the best performances in the men’s long jump with a personal-best 24’ 0.75” leap. Addison’s previous best was a 22’ 9.00” jump at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 18. Redshirt senior Grant Pearce notched a season-best 60’ 3.25” toss in the men’s weight throw to finish eighth in the event. In the women’s weight throw, redshirt freshman Nicole Chavis set a career best with a 62’ 10.00” heave, topping her previous high of 61’ 7.00” recorded at the Dick Taylor Invitational earlier this season. Senior Karimah Shepherd recorded a season-best 20’ 1.25” measurement in the long jump, which was exactly six and one-half inches better than her 19’ 6.75” jump at the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 26. At Virginia Tech, freshman Brian Davis ran the second-best 200m time of his first collegiate indoor season, crossing the finish line in 22.43. Davis’ recorded a 22.33 time at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
