Young Wolfpack Throwers Shine at Indoor Track Event

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Redshirt freshman Jule Rich won the men's weight throw and was third in the shot put to lead NC State's competitors at the Gene Anderson Invitational at UNC's Eddie Smith Field House. Redshirt freshman Tremanisha Taylor also won the women's shot put, while teammate Kortney Pearce was second in the weight throw. Wolfpack jumpers did well in the event, as junior Karimah Shepherd was second in the women's long jump, junior Jazueline Daniels was third in the triple jump and sophomore Elizabeth Shuman and senior Danielle Adams were fifth and sixth in the high jump. For the men, junior Kwame Boatwright was third in the triple jump, followed by freshman Rueben Malone in fifth. In the sprints, sophomore Colleen McGuire was fourth in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 58.72 seconds. Senior Paige Eley also had a personal-best time of 7.69 seconds in the qualifying round of the women's 60 meters to advance to the finals, where she finished seventh. Junior Daniel Fretz also had a personal best time of 22.53 seconds to finish third in the men's 200 meters.
The one-day event was the Wolfpack's final competition before next weekend's ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track Center at Roxbury Community College in Boston.
