Pack Women Fare Well In Field Events In Outdoor Opener

CHARLOTTE – NC State junior Karimah Shepherd won the long jump and redshirt freshman Tremanisha Taylor won the discus throw in her first collegiate outdoor track and field meet on the first day of competition at the 49er Classic at UNC Charlotte’s Irwin Belk Track. Shepherd jumped 19-feet, 6 ¾-inches for her victory, while Taylor had a throw of 161-feet, 3-inches to win her event in the Wolfpack's first outdoor track and field meet of the season. Wolfpack senior Brittany Hampton was second to Taylor in the discus, while fellow senior Lawanda Henry was second in the 20-pound hammer throw with a toss of 177-feet, 2-inches, as the Wolfpack women fared well in field events of the two-day meet. Sophomore Taylor Graham qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 110-meter hurdles by finishing with the sixth-best time in qualifying with a time of 14.42 seconds. For the Wolfpack men, redshirt sophomore Nathaniel Williams was fifth in the hammer throw, redshirt freshman Michael Mansy was eighth in the 1,500-meter run and junior Kris Kornegay-Gober was eighth in the long jump. 49er Classic Women’s 110m hurdles preliminaries Women’s 100m preliminaries
