Eley, Perry Win Sprints on First Day of Kent Taylor Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Paige Eley and freshman Alexis Perry took home first place in their sprinting events, as the Wolfpack completed the first day of competition at the Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Members of the NC State track teams also competed at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
Eley won the women’s 100-meter dash at UNC and picked up her first top finish of the outdoor season with a time of 12.34. Senior Jazueline Daniels crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 12.76 in the event, followed closely by Perry who finished fourth with a 12.97 clocking.
Perry won the women’s 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 14.35. The Durham, N.C., native earned the victory in her first-ever attempt at the event in a collegiate uniform.
Senior Kris Kornegay-Gober lined up for the men’s long jump for the first time this year and leaped exactly 23 feet to take top honors.
In Orlando, at the UCF Invitational, redshirt junior Nathaniel Williams led all Wolfpack men’s throwers with a 177’ 1.00” heave in the men’s hammer throw and finished sixth. Redshirt freshman Nicole Chavis placed seventh in the women’s hammer throw with a 175’ 2.00” toss.
NC State will wrap up competition at both meets Saturday, March 23.
