Taylor Wins Shot Put at Duke Invitational
April 6, 2012 DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt freshman Tremanisha Taylor of Henderson, N.C., won the women’s shot put on Friday at the Duke Invitational with a throw of 53-feet, 7-inches, just missing a new school record. It was the second week in a row that Taylor has thrown more than 51 feet, after she finished ninth in last weekend’s Raleigh Relays at NC State’s Derr Track. The current record of 54-feet, 1-inch was set by teammate Lawanda Henry, during her sophomore season of 2010. Henry, now a senior, was fourth in Friday’s meet with a throw of 49-feet, 5-inches. Former Wolfpack standout and current volunteer assistant Demiracle Washington, competing as an unattached athlete, was second in the triple jump. For the Wolfpack men, senior Gregory Dame was fifth in the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 3:54.34, while freshman Carl Marant was third in the triple jump with a mark of 48-feet, 4-inches. Several Wolfpack jumpers also competed at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., with junior Karimah Shepherd posting her best mark of the season at 20-feet, 3 3/4-inches to finish third in the women's long jump.
