Taylor Wins Gold in Shot Put at ACC Outdoor Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - NC State redshirt junior Tremanisha Taylor added the fourth All-ACC honor to her career ledger on Friday, taking home top honors in the women's shot put at the 2014 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Belk Track at Fetzer Field.
Taylor bested the field of 17 with her gold medal winning throw of 54'00.50" (16.47m) to earn the first ACC Outdoor Championship of her Wolfpack tenure, complementing the ACC Indoor Championship she won in the shot put in 2013.
Taylor became the first NC State woman to win the outdoor shot put since Lawanda Henry claimed back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010.
In the other events of the day, Samantha Norman (10:27.17) and Erin Mercer (10:31.60) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, while Adrian Ross (9:11.96) registered a 10th place mark in the men's 3,000m steeplechase.
Kenyetta Iyevbele recorded the fastest qualifying time in the women's 800m, finishing the run in 2:05.28, while Alexis Perry was second in qualifying in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.43. Paisley Simmons finished with the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the women's 100m dash with a sprint of 11.74. All three will participate in the finals of their respective events tomorrow.
The NC State women are currently in fifth place after eight scored events, while the men are in a tie for seventh place after seven scored events.
The final day of ACC Championships competition is scheduled to begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the men's javelin throw. Finals are set in seven field events and 20 running events. ESPN3 plans to begin coverage at 4 p.m.
