Williams, a sophomore from Newport, N.C., earned second-team All-America honors with his 13th place finish in the men's discus. His top throw of 181-feet, 6-inches came on his second of three chances. Williams, who earned All-ACC honors earlier this year, was making his first appearance at the national meet. Taylor, a redshirt freshman from Henderson, N.C., finished 17th in the women's discus with a mark of 169-feet, 2-inches in her first trip to the national meet. Hampton, a senior from Monroe, N.C., finished 20th with a mark of 161-feet, 9-inches. Taylor, the only Wolfpack athlete to qualify for two events at the NCAA Championship meet, will compete again on Friday, when she lines up for the women's shot put. The meet continues on Thursday at Drake Stadium, with All-American Ryan Hill running in the preliminaries of the men's 1,500 meters. Hill set the school record earlier this year at 3:39.58 during the Wolfpack Last Chance Qualifier, which ranks as the fifth fastest time this season among collegiate runners.
After twice qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meters, this will be Hill's first time running in the 1,500. The top five finishers in the two semifinal heats, along with the two next fastest times, will advance to Saturday's finals. Junior high jumper Kris Kornegay-Gober will also compete in the men's high jump on Thursday, while reigning All-American Andie Cozzarelli will run in the women's 10,000 meters.
