Perry Takes Silver in 100-Meter Hurdles at USA Juniors
June 20, 2013
DES MOINES - Freshman Alexis Perry finished second in the women's 100-meter hurdles on the second day of the 2013 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Thursday afternoon at Drake University.
Perry, a NCAA East Regional qualifier in the event, clocked a 14.01 time to notch the second-fastest qualifying mark, win the third heat and earn an automatic bid into the final.
With just two hours between her preliminary race and the final, Perry had little time to recover and prepare, but went stride-for-stride with Sasha Wallace of East Oakland's Youth Development program. Perry was edged by Wallace by just two hundredths of a second and finished as the runner-up with a time of 13.86. The mark included a -4.2 headwind into which the runners raced.
Perry will compete in the junior women's long jump final at 1:10 p.m. (ET), Friday, June 21.
Redshirt senior Ryan Hill competed in the third heat of the men's senior 1,500-meter prelims, which turned out to be the fastest of the three total heats. Hill placed sixth in his race, while posting the 14th fastest time overall with a 3:42.34 mark.
While Perry will be the only representative of NC State to compete in a field event Friday, the third day of competition, the Wolfpack will send freshmen Megan Moye (women's 1,500 meter run), Ariah Graham (women's 400 meter dash), and Craig Engels (men's 1,500-meter run) to the track in the junior championships. Senior Brian Himelright will line up for the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminary race. Start times for tomorrow's action involving NC State student-athletes can be found below.
