Throwers Excel For Wolfpack Track

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Redshirt freshman Tremanisha Taylor highlighted a strong performance by NC State’s throwers on Sunday in the season-opening Holiday Open, hosted by Christopher Newport at the Freeman Center. Taylor, in her first varsity competition, won the shot put with a throw of 48-feet, 9-inches and was second to teammate Lawanda Henry in the weight throw. Henry’s toss of 57-feet, 6.5 inches won the event, followed by Taylor’s throw of 53-feet, 9 ¼-inches. For the Wolfpack men, redshirt freshman Jule Rich was second in the shot put with a throw of 49-feet, 8 ¼-inches. Sophomore Grant Pearce was third in the weight throw with a toss of 54-feet, 7 ¼-inches, followed by Rich in fourth place at 53-feet, 10 ½-inches. Junior Kris Kornegay-Gober was fifth in the men’s high jump at 6-feet, 9 ¾-inches, while redshirt freshman Lacey Shuman was third in the women’s high jump at 5-feet, 3 ¾-inches. Danielle Adams was sixth in the high jump at 5-feet, 3 ¾-inches. The Wolfpack men's and women's indoor track teams return to action in the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., on Jan. 13-14. NC State’s Holiday Open results
