Wolfpack Completes First Meet of Season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The NC State track and field program opened its 2012-13 season on Saturday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track Kick-Off, notching four first-place finishes on the day.
Jonathan Addison took first-place in the high jump at a height of 6'10.25", Paisley Simmons finished first in the women's 60m dash with a time of 7.57, Nicole Chavis landed in first in the women's weight throw with a toss of 61'1.25" and SeQuoia Watkins nabbed a first-place finish in the women's shot put with a distance of 47'3.75". Watkins also set a personal best in the weight throw as well, finishing second behind Chavis with a heave of 58'2".
Jule Rich finished in second place in the men's weight throw with a toss of 62'0.50", while Nathaniel Williams came in fourth in the same event with a throw of 56'1.75". Elizabeth Shuman finished in second-place in the women's high jump at a height of 5'8.75".
Alexis Perry, who competed in three events on the day, came in fourth in the high jump at a height of 5'3.75", second in the long jump with a distance of 18'11.25" and 15th in the 60m dash preliminary with a time of 7.88. Addison, who also competed in three events, finished fourth in both the the 60m dash (6.92) and the long jump (22'8") in addition to his first-place finish in the high jump.
Shirlee Evans and Amara Bell each competed in the women's long jump and the triple jump on Saturday. Evans finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 17'6.75" while Bell came in at 11th, jumping 16'10.75". In the triple jump, Bell was 10th (36'2.25") while Evans was 12th (35'2").
The Wolfpack will have a month off before returning to the track at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 17, 2014.
