RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State senior track & field athlete Karimah Shepherd has been selected for the ACC Futures internship program for the 2013-14 year and will work at ESPN's Wide World of Sports at Disney in Orlando, Fla.

Shepherd interviewed with three different organizations, which included the Orange Bowl, the ACC and Disney, but it would be her third and final interview that suited her best.

"I actually interviewed with Disney last, so I really tried to make a great impression and sell myself," Shepherd said. "Initially, they told me they would call me in two weeks, but they called me the next morning. When I got the phone call I was kind of nervous because I didn't know what to expect."

The surprise call was a formal offer for the internship, beginning in June.

"I thought it was a great opportunity for what I want to do," Shepherd said. "It's such a blessing to know that I have something to do after school."

The Chesapeake, Va., native will be the sixth NC State student-athlete since 2001 and the third in the last four years to accept the internship opportunity. Former NC State gymnast Jackie Yanchocik interned at Fox Sports Florida with Sun Sports Digital Media in 2012 and track athlete Ayana West occupied the same position as Shepherd in 2010 at Disney.

"I'm looking forward to being able to travel," Shepherd said. "Disney and ESPN are really big names, and I'm excited to meet new people, market myself and get out there and start my career."

Earlier this season, Shepherd recorded the second-longest mark in school history in the triple jump with a 42' 4.25" leap.

Shepherd earned All-ACC honors for the 2012 indoor season after finishing third in the women's long jump. Shepherd also qualified for the NCAA East Regional Championships in both the long jump and triple jump during the subsequent outdoor season.
