    Track Warms Up For Next Weeks ACC Championships

    Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State track and field teams went up to Virginia Tech and competed in the Virginia Tech Challenge. The meet was the final tune-up for the Pack before next weekends Indoor ACC Championships at Clemson, S.C.

    Jemissa Hess just missed out on a NCAA Provisional mark in the mile, as she ran a 4:48.52 for third place, less than a second away from the required mark. Joya Rodgers also brought home a third place showing, hers was in the 55 meters with a time of 7.01.

    Ann Wheatly was fifth in the 3,000 meters with her time of 10:08.44, while Jennifer Ennis was eighth in that same race (10:12.70). Georgia Davis was 10th in the 800 meters (2:16.58).

    DeMiracle Washington posted a mark of 40’07.75” in the triple jump for a third place showing. Mattie Bethea was fifth in the high jump clearing 5’05”, and sixth in the long jump (18’11.25”).

    Freshman sprinter A’Tolani Akinkuotu had an impressive showing in the 55 meters. Akinkuotu reached a NCAA Provisional mark by wining the race with a time of 6.20. That time was good enough for a facility record at Virginia Tech, and was just 0.03 off the NC State school record.

    Mitchell Pope once again achieved a NCAA Provisional mark in the shot put, either getting a automatic of provisional mark in all eight meets this season. Pope won the shot put with a top heave of 63’02”, only two inches shy of his third automatic mark of the season.

    Chris Crawford finished third in the shot put with a toss of 56’05.25”

    Reggie Reese placed third in the 55 meters with a time of 6.30, and was ninth in the 200 meters (21.88). Omar Wells had a bust weekend in the sprints, as he was sixth in the 400 meters (48.74), seventh in the 55 meters (6.40), and 10th in the 200 meters (21.92).

    In the 3,000 meters, Stephen Furst was fourth (8:14.08) and Gavin Coombs was eighth (8:18.44).

    Dexter Adams finished fourth in two of the jumps, jumping 23’10” in the long jump and 49’05” in the triple jump. Mike Hill took fifth in the triple jump with a top leap of 49’04.50”.

    The track squads will travel to Clemson next weekend and compete in the Indoor ACC Championships.
